Symbian prostheses, also known as ankle prostheses. It is mainly used as a prosthetic after Syme amputation surgery, and in some cases, it is also used after ankle amputation surgery such as Pirogov amputation. This type of prosthetic can actually be seen as a special ankle amputation calf prosthetic. This type of prosthetic can achieve weight-bearing at the end of the residual limb and has good compensatory function. The traditional approach in the past was to use leather to create a slit type receiving cavity, reinforced with metal support bars, resulting in bulky prostheses that needed to be fastened with straps when worn. Nowadays, resin composite materials are used for vacuum forming to produce full contact receiving cavities, which greatly improves the appearance and function of prostheses. Nowadays, Syme amputation is commonly used for ankle amputation. Because the bone tips of the tibia and fibula are left behind after ankle amputation, and the end cannot bear weight, ankle amputation is not performed. In the past, there were people who called this type of prosthetic "ankle joint amputation prosthetic", which is obviously unreasonable. In addition, the previously commonly used methods of Pirogoff amputation, Boyd amputation, and Schoppert joint amputation are now rarely used due to the frequent occurrence of foot deformities, as well as factors such as skin scars and poor end weight-bearing capacity. Syme amputation is a distal tibial and fibular supracondylar amputation, in which the base joint surfaces of the medial and lateral condyles are cut off and smoothed, and then covered with a plantar heel flap on the stump.

The characteristics of Symbian prostheses include:

① The weight-bearing capacity at the end of the residual limb is more in line with the physiological characteristics of the human body compared to the weight-bearing capacity of the patellar ligament in lower leg prostheses.

; ② The residual limb is long, the muscles in the lower leg are relatively intact, and there is a longer lever arm. The residual limb has a good effect on controlling the prosthetic limb; ③ Due to the fact that the end of the residual limb often has a bulbous root shape and is relatively large, special treatment (such as opening a window) is required when making a full contact receiving cavity, resulting in a poor appearance.

④ Due to the excessive length of the residual limb, there is no position to install the ankle joint, and a special prosthetic foot specifically designed for Symbian prosthetics must be used. The connection seat position of this type of prosthetic foot is very low, usually using a static ankle (SACH) foot.

In order to achieve the goals of convenient insertion and removal, effective suspension, and improved appearance, the types of Symbian prosthetic receiving cavities have continuously evolved, mainly forming the following types.

⑴ Rear open type Saim prosthetic: SACH prosthetic foot is selected, with a resin material receiving cavity and a window at the back.

⑵ Inner open type Saim prosthesis: The material is the same as above, but the window is opened on the inner side.

⑶ Localized soft wall Saim prosthesis: The receiving cavity wall on the back of the ankle is molded with soft resin, which is elastic and does not require a window, making the appearance of the prosthesis change.

⑷ Double layer acceptance chamber type Saim prosthetic: The inner acceptance chamber is a residual limb cover made of soft material. After vacuum forming, the concave part on the outside needs to be filled flat, and then vacuum layered to produce the outer acceptance chamber.
