In November, a team from the Medical University of Vienna in Austria and Imperial College London in the UK published new results in Nature Biomedical Engineering. They implanted a new 40-channel microelectrode array into three upper-limb amputee volunteers, combined with targeted muscle innervation surgery, to achieve direct measurement of the activity of individual motor neurons for the first time. In the experiment, volunteers only imagined the "phantom hand" to do actions such as stretching their fingers. The brain's movement instructions completely retained in their nervous system could be captured by the electrodes, and then decoded by the algorithm and converted into movement instructions for the bionic prosthetic limb. On November 12, the Singaporean Ministry of Health announced the donation of 100 sets of customized prostheses, worth approximately US$192,000, to Jordan's "Gaza Medical Assistance Initiative", covering adult and children's models. These prostheses have been jointly evaluated by Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and Jordanian medical experts, equipped with customized socket systems, and will be transferred to Gazan amputees through the "Jordan-Gaza Medical Corridor". At the same time, Singapore also dispatched a seven-member assessment team to Jordan to investigate the subsequent rehabilitation needs to form a long-term assistance closed loop.
