Explain in detail the three materials used to make prosthetic sockets, which one do you use

 

Prosthetic limbs are part of the body of us physically disabled people, in which the socket is in direct contact with our bodies. So when choosing a prosthesis, many people are struggling with one question: which material is the best for the socket?

         

The materials used to make prosthetic sockets are now mainly divided into three types: ABS resin, PP sheet, and carbon fiber. Below we expand and introduce these three materials.

ABS resin:

ABS resin is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, and its English name is Acrylonitrile-butadine-styrene (abbreviated as ABS). It is a bulk general-purpose resin. After modification (adding additives or alloys, etc.) to improve its performance, ABS is an engineering plastic. ABS alloys have large output, many types, and wide applications, and are the main modified plastics.

ABS is a light yellow granular or bead-shaped opaque resin that is non-toxic, odorless and has low water absorption. It has good comprehensive physical and mechanical properties, such as excellent electrical properties, wear resistance, dimensional stability, chemical resistance and surface gloss, and is easy to process and shape. The disadvantages are weather resistance, poor heat resistance, and flammability.

PP sheet:

PP board is a semi-crystalline material. It is harder than PE and has a higher melting point. It is used in acid and alkali resistant equipment, environmental protection equipment, waste water and exhaust gas emission equipment, scrubbing towers, clean rooms, semiconductor factories and related industrial equipment. It is also the first choice material for manufacturing plastic water tanks. Among them, PP thick plates are widely used in stamping plates, punch mattress pads, etc.

Pure PP board: low density, easy to weld and process, has excellent chemical resistance, heat resistance and impact resistance,non-toxic and odorless. It is one of the most environmentally friendly engineering plastics at present. The main colors are whiteand computer color. Other colors can also be customized according to customer requirements.

Glass fiber reinforced PP board (FRPP board): After being reinforced by 20% glass fiber, in addition to maintaining the original excellent properties, the strength and rigidity are doubled compared to PP, and it has good heat resistance, low temperature impact resistance, anti-corrosion and arc resistance, and low shrinkage rate. Especially suitable for chemical fiber, chlor-alkali, petroleum, dyes, pesticides, food, medicine, light industry, metallurgy, sewage treatment and other fields.

Carbon fiber:

Carbon fiber panels are formed by impregnating and hardening carbon fibers arranged in the same direction with resin to form carbon fiber panels. It can effectively solve the problems of difficult construction of multi-layer carbon fiber cloth and large project volume. It has good reinforcement effect and convenient construction.

Using high-quality carbon fiber raw materials and good basic resins, carbon fiber sheets have good properties such as high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, earthquake resistance, and impact resistance.

Technical features

1. High strength and efficiency

The tensile strength is several times that of ordinary steel, the elastic modulus is better than steel, and it has excellent creep resistance, corrosion resistance and earthquake resistance.

2. Light weight and good flexibility

Carbon fiber has high specific strength and only 1/5 of the mass of steel. It has high toughness, can be coiled, and can be supplied in larger lengths without overlapping.

3. Construction is convenient and construction quality is easy to ensure

The material does not need to be pre-processed, the process is convenient, and the plates are allowed to cross.

4. Good durability and corrosion resistance

Resistant to corrosion from acids, alkalis, salts and atmospheric environments, no regular maintenance is required.

The first two of the above three materials are commonly used sockets, and the materials themselves are non-toxic. The latter carbon fiber material is a high-end material and is charged separately when making the socket. Therefore, everyone should choose the material of the prosthetic socket according to their own situation. Finding a good prosthetic socket production technician is the best. As long as the socket is comfortable to wear, you can go further.
