How do you keep your limbs warm at the beginning of winter?
Winter is here, and the weather is getting colder day by day. As people with physical disabilities, we must pay more attention to keeping our residual limbs warm. When wearing a prosthetic limb, you should add more warm socks outside. The socks of the residual limb in the socket should be cleaned frequently to keep them dry. You must also wipe off the moisture after cleaning the residual limb.
What needs to be reminded is that the limbs are mostly in a state of cold contraction in winter. Socks worn on the stump in winter should be thicker. It is best to have a high cotton content, good warmth retention, breathability and moisture absorption. This will not only help keep you warm and cold, but also prevent the prosthetic limb from becoming loose and unfitting due to cold limb contraction.
The greater the temperature difference between the body and the external environment in winter and summer, you will find that there is moisture in the inner cavity of the prosthetic limb, and the residual limb will become cold over time. In addition, due to body sweating, the bottom of the inner cavity of the prosthetic limb will be damp, so the "bottom" thermal insulation material must be taken out to dry frequently. If it is dirty, you can also wash it with water and dry it before use. In this way, it will not only dry and keep warm, but also maintain internal hygiene and avoid odor.
